About Me

I’m Amy, a primary school teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience in the U.K and the U.S. As well as being a teacher, I’m also a writer and a voracious reader. I live with my husband and two children in north-west London.

I’ve taught at state and private schools on both sides of the Atlantic (this explains my somewhat transatlantic accent!) Literacy is my passion; I have a Master’s Degree from NYU in Literacy Education and I’m a qualified New York State Literacy Coach for children. At this point in my career, I’ve taught every primary year group except Reception!

In the summer of 2022, I left my long-held position teaching Year 5 at the American School in London in order to spend more time with my two young children; I was looking for more flexibility in my working hours. Soon after, I started my own tutoring business, which enabled me to be at school drop off and pick up every day. At the same time, I started running lunchtime creative writing and journalism clubs in a local school.

I love spending my days working alongside young people as they grow their reading and writing skills and become enthusiastic lifelong readers and writers.

When I’m not tutoring or running a lunch club at a school, I’m either working on my latest children’s book draft (I’m an aspiring children’s book writer) or writing about diverse kids books and sharing book recommendations over on my Substack platform: Diverse Kids Books.
